CQB Suggestions for New Players

Postby halfx » Sat Jan 16, 2010 6:16 am

Hello all,

I've been to 556 a few times and I do not consider myself a 'Professional' nor have I been in the armed forces, but I have been playing airsoft for nearly seven years and I have a few suggestions to help the new players, especially younger players, in their CQB game.

Often I see new players very reserved about getting shot, you need to go against the fear and realized that the game will be more fun with risks, and if you are hit, no worries, the next match will start in a few minutes.

1. Airsoft is not Halo/CoD/Counter-Strike
- With that being said, there are many tips that will help the new player in CQB.

2. Covering Fire
- Never forget, you're on a team and your team mates are essential to your success, you are much more likely to win the OP if you play together. Covering fire is quite easy to do and is essential to help a team mate move to a new position. Just yell to someone for covering fire, and the opposing force will duck their heads allowing your team mate to successfully change positions.

3. Call out targets
- If you see a player on the opposing force, let your team mates know. You may not get the kill, but you've just assisted your team towards a win!
Make sure you are accurate in your description of the location. 'Over there' doesn't help. 'Behind the barrels on the leftside 10 feet back' is much more helpful and descriptive.

If you can't hear or don't want to risk being heard by the enemy, use hand signals. Make sure they are basic so the less seasoned players understand. For example, if there are three players on the other side of the wall. Point to the location, and put three fingers up. And repeat. This is very basic and should be understood by most players.

4. Read
- There are many tactics and manuals of military training available online, showing how Law Enforcement/Military use to enter buildings, rooms, etc..
I'm not saying memorize it, but a quick glance of the diagrams will absolutely help your game play.

5. Efficiency
- Make sure you're able to reload your weapon quickly and efficiently. Time spent jumbling magazines is time that you allow yourself to be susceptible to enemy fire.

6. Intimidation
- One of the best tools in the game. Make your opponents fear you. I've known players to scream before entering a room just to shock the inhabitants. It works! - At least in AS.

LT, you're more trained on this than I am, any other suggestions/additions?

HalfX you have hit the Nail right on the head and Drove it home i agree 100% with everything here that i have just read and thank you for the time taken to post this. I do not need to add anything here for the new and young players to CQB this is a great read take and apply all of these Pointers guys and girls , you don't have to be former Mil or PMC to know how it works.

This need to be a Sticky

PS the one thing i will have to add is that you must Persevere don;t give up and remember Fortune favors the BOLD!

More Pro-Tips,
Always watch your back and corners, no need for stupid deaths :)
If your gun is longer, dont move around as much but keep a view of the enemy side.
Never slide or dive! it takes a while to get up and you run the risk of breaking your gun.

Those were a few tips i feel you left out. and remember kids... stay frosty!

Two words "The hose"

I tend to disagree. I always enjoy the opportunity to employ the good old knee slide.

In all I agree with the this thread. Don't be afraid to get shot and take some risks. I rather be the first one dead trying to do something ballsy over hiding in the back and being one of the last ones alive. Yes the BBs can hurt some times, but the welts go away eventually.

I saw primer slide through Lt.'s "mouse" hole and "bang-bang" Lt. to death. It was inspiring.
